Alby’s work focuses on creating engaging narrative experiences, while exploring the deep connection between emotional language and the human figure. He begins a painting, not with an idea of composition or color but, with a set of emotional ideas that can translate into a narrative scene. Narrative sequences, an event, the in between, and the coming to terms with an outcome is the foundation of his work. His goal for every painting is understanding the emotional strategies for ‘coming to terms’ with the elements of our shared experiences. For example, the Silence in the moments after an event or ‘the silence after the storm’ is a recurring theme within Alby’s work. Naturally, there is a sense of suspense that comes through and an audience responds in proportion to how emotionally realistic the work is. Therefore, he trys hard to give visual genuineness to the characters and stories he creates.
